8 Things You Don't Know About Your self

Some philosophers say, a man is never completely acquiring knowledge about anything going around him. Some accept it ,others  disrespect.A child is an empty pot where you can fill in with anything good or bad.But once you grow up you get those big buffallo horns on you and you imagine yourself to be the supreme one.The fact is even harder when it comes to know about the human body, the most complex machine ever found. It’s fitted with mesmerizing technologies another thousand years can’t manage to rebuild. Read below to know some of the real facts which you may not have come across in the past.

1) BONES BREAK DOWN ON ITS OWN
Isn't it fascinating to know that our bones actually break up on itself? But think how and why.

Bones are the storage houses of large quantities of minerals like calcium and phosphorus.Infact these minerals form the most of bone after its matrix. They are also required for the signalling in nerve pathways, muscular coordination, etc. When the levels of these minerals vary, it results in impairments of its functions and can lead to muscular tetany, paralysis etc.But our incredible machine has its own inbuilt mechanism to control it.In case of hypocalcemia(reduced blood calcium levels),parathyroid hormone acts on the bone to cause its resorption and consequent leaking of calcium into the blood, hence raising its level.

2) STOMACH SECRETES CORROSIVE ACID
Yes.I’m  talking about your very own hydrochloric acid, the prime factor for digestion of proteins into smaller units called peptones. It’s a highly corrosive acid used in metal industries. It actually fumes!!So isn’t your stomach in jeopardy? No.Our stomach is protected with a thick lining of mucus which helps avoid the contact between our stomach wall and the acid.

3)THE FAT BRAIN
While most of us think about the brain as a computing instrument located inside the small cranium,it’s impotant to see the amount of energy it consumes.Though it constitutes just 2% of our body weight,it’s calorie consumption is astounding amounting to almost 20% of our total calorie intake. So what does it say?Brain is the first organ to be affected if you are starving.Inadequate calories to the brain can have serious consequences.

4)PUBERTY RESHAPES BRAIN
As we all are aware, puberty is a period of constant changes, physical, mental and emotional.Physical changes are obviously attributed to the sex hormones corresponding to both sexes.Studies among teenagers have shown that their brains undergo significant reorganisation which helps them to develop the intellectual machinery for understanding their own emotions and the feelings of others. It is the pre frontal cortex that undergoes a major part of the change. Studies suggest that it's not just hormones that are causing teenagers to be their typical selves, it could also be the fact that their brains are developing as well.(Link)

5)OVA ARE WASTED
There is a stark difference between the way males and females contribute to reproduction. While males produce sperms continuously throughout their life, females make use of the ova they are already born with. When a baby girl is born she has around 1 to 2 million follicles, among  which she loses most during her life  upto puberty by a process called follicular atresia. So by the time of menarche she will have only around 3,00,000 to 4,00,000 follicles.Throughout her reproductive period, only about 400 of these follicles will attain maturity, the remaining are similarly lost by atresia.

6)CELLS HAVE HAIRS TOO
Cells in many parts of body like nasal cavity ,ear canal, fallopian tube etc. are provided with minute hair like structures called ‘cilia’.Their main function is movement of particles. They are responsible for the capture of dust particles in nasal cavity, drainage of mucus down the throat, movement of ovum in oviduct, ability to hear(bending of hair cells will transmit signals which  further enable sound).

7)YOUR SKIN ISN’T WHITE
When you mention your skin as white, please do remember it isn’t white.Rather it’s a combination.Without any colouring your skin will look white or I would better say pale. But the facial blood vessels and peripheral capillaries provide the necessary blush so that you don’t look ghost. A yellow pigment also tints the canvas. Lastly, sepia-toned melanin, created in response to ultraviolet rays, appears black in large amounts. These four hues mix in different proportions to create the skin colors of all the peoples of Earth.

8)BODY POSITION AND SMELL CAN AFFECT YOUR MEMORY
I’m pretty sure most of you would have experienced that moment when you suddenly remember one particular incident when you come over a scent or sound, probably music. It’s not dejavu. This is the result of our big brain’s inner connections. A smell can bring on a flood of memories, influence people's moods and even affect their work performance. Because the olfactory bulb is part of the brain's limbic system, an area so closely associated with memory and feeling it's sometimes called the "emotional brain," smell can call up memories and powerful responses almost instantaneously.

A similar association has been monitored with body positions as well. Just holding your body in the right position means you’ll have faster, more accurate access to certain memories. . An article in the January 2007 issue of Cognition reports that episodes from your past are remembered faster and better while in a body position similar to the pose struck during the event.
