The striker from Ecuador died just weeks after signing a deal of 10 million pounds with El Jaish in Qatar side.
The Ecuadorian Football Federation said on their site that Benitez had severe stomach pain, he was rushed to the hospital, where after a few hours suffered cardio respiratory arrest, also known as "cardiac arrest" which end his life.
He died at the age of 27.
Survived by wife and children and his father.
